Though Amazon is the world’s largest and fastest-growing marketplace, it’s an ever-evolving platform. This makes it nearly impossible for sellers to stay current with Amazon’s terms and conditions. It’s also impossible to scale when sellers fall into complacency and fail to compete. So, how can you become a major player as an Amazon seller?

According to Amazon expert Shannon Roddy, you’re on track to exceeding eight figures and beyond if you use these proven three tactics: Identify your brand mission, expand and adapt your product line, and protect your brand. So, how do you apply these methods to your business?

Hey, Josh, thanks so much for having me. I’ve been really excited. We planned this a several months back. So something I’ve definitely been looking forward to.

Josh Hadley 2:48

Well, you came highly recommended from James Thompson, he had some great things to say about you. So I know I’m looking forward to getting to know you better, as well as your Amazon journey. I know we briefly spoke you’ve been selling on Amazon for 10 years, you’ve done your 10,000 hours, so to speak there. So why don’t you start there? Why don’t you tell me about your background and what led you to where you are today.

Shannon Roddy 3:11

So I got started about 10 years ago. You can see behind me, this is a mount Adonia long guy. In Kenya, my wife and I spent about 15 months in Africa volunteering with an NGO, they’re just doing some incredible work. And when we got back, I didn’t have a job. And my best friend Eric Clemens offered me a position contracting under his company, which did e commerce and built out e commerce, websites and Amazon. And so, you know, with his help, I created my first web design company, and got my very first Amazon client helped clean up a ton of their listings that were on Amazon that were kind of a mess. And we added their additional 75% of their inventory that was not listed on Amazon and then kicked off about 70 resellers just to kind of clean up the platform. And the next month, they saw a 400% increase in revenue and saw month over month and year over year grow. month over month and year over year revenue increases after that. And that was really just dipping my toe in the water. And I just remember was so challenging. But as I began to sort of break through the complexity of Amazon, there was something about it. That was simple. That made sense to me. I found I found that I got it. And we’re Google is super complex in terms of what determines your organic rank and all these different pieces. Amazon is relatively simple in that it’s a completely enclosed system. And so there’s only a handful of things that can impact things like your organic rank or sales velocity or whatever. And I found out that it made sense to me. And not only that I could do it, but that I could explain it better to people. And I think that was kind of the real key. So after a couple of years, I’ve shut down the web design company. My wife and I moved with our oldest son to Atlanta, Georgia bought a house out here and basically pivoted to Marketplace Sellers Courses and spent the next six and a half years doing e commerce consulting primarily on Amazon and loved it, I absolutely had a blast. And then a year ago about today, based on when this release, I was acquired by Avenue 7 Media and brought on Full Time to head up their business development. And I’ve been absolutely loving it. And you know, the short version of that Josh is just that Amazon over the years became so complicated, and so complex that no one person could keep up to date with everything. So we’ve got, you know, 10 different departments that handle all this stuff, I get to train our teams internally, I get to do bizdev and, and things like this podcast, and I’ll be speaking at prosper show in March. And so, you know, for me, it allows me to sort of fully exploit my passions, without having the burden and responsibility rely on and rest on me to keep up to date with all this stuff, which is no longer humanly possible, right.
