You’re likely familiar with the saying, “Revenue is vanity, profit is sanity, but cash is king.” Many Amazon sellers focus on building seven-, eight-, and nine-figure businesses, but the real focus should be on profits and cash flow. However, there is a blueprint for maximizing scaling.

Jeff Campbell, a top-rated marketing expert and e-commerce consultant, asserts that Amazon entrepreneurs must expand their marketplace to increase brand growth. While e-commerce channels such as Amazon B2B, Walmart, and Target provide a strategic roadmap, Jeff recommends researching the market to ensure viable verticals. He also emphasizes the importance of understanding your business’s financial performance in order to achieve profit gains. To this end, he formulated a framework that includes market intelligence, profitability analysis, content optimization, advertising, and holistic management and measurement. It’s essential to track your profits and perform monthly and quarterly reviews to measure data against your KPIs. Only after you have a good understanding of your profit margins should you consider expanding channels and distribution.

In this episode of the eComm Breakthrough Podcast with Josh Hadley, Jeff Campbell, Co-founder and President of aiCommerce, talks about marketplace expansion and profitability metrics. Jeff explains why marketplace expansion is essential for brand growth, strategic marketplace roadmaps, and the five-step framework for understanding profitability metrics.

This episode is brought to you by eComm Breakthrough Consulting, where I help seven-figure companies grow to eight figures and beyond. Listen, Jeff, I started my business back in 2015. And I grew it to an eight-figure brand in seven years. But I made a lot of mistakes along the way that made the path of getting to eight figures take a lot longer than it needed to. There were times where I had a lot of self doubt whether my brand could survive whether we had the profitability, or if we would have the cash flow to survive and invest in new products. Jeff Campbell 2:40

Thanks for having me, Josh. I’m excited.

Josh Hadley 2:42

Jeff, I’m super excited to have you on you truly are a veteran. And you’ve worked with some very established brands to help them grow and succeed. You’ve helped brands exit. So you’re a wealth of knowledge you’ve seen, you know, where a lot of our listeners hope to be, you know, five to 10 years from now. And I’m looking forward to the actionable advice and strategies that you’ll share with our listeners that can help them get to those goals even faster. But as we dive in Jeff, you know, maybe tell us a little bit more what is aiCommerce? AI is a such a buzzword right now. It’s but tell us what aiCommerce is and all the cool stuff that you’re doing there to help e-commerce brands expand and grow.

Jeff Campbell 3:27

Yeah, you bet Josh. We started as brand owners on the manufacturing side, and really grew those brands through marketplaces, we own about 11 brands still. And founders were buying and selling brands, not everybody wants to be bought or sold. So we rolled out an agency model, or a consultancy. And so aiCommerce and what I run is really that world where we take a lot of the learnings that people the process the technology from our success over the many years and apply them in an agency model to other brands. And from an AI perspective, you’re right, it’s a buzzword seems like a great domain that we chose many years ago that that now is probably worth a lot more and maybe more than the company itself. But we do use a combination of artificial intelligence as well as human intelligence. You know, as much as the buzz might have you believe there’s not going to be anytime soon replacing of of human intelligence in this world, making the right decisions, understanding the right budget shifts and portfolio of advertising and in optimization and more. So that’s, that’s why we spend a lot of time doing working heavily in the mid market with all sorts of brands looking to grow on marketplaces and through different ecommerce channels.

Josh Hadley 4:46

I love it. Yes. You must have had a lot of foresight there and in choosing that brand name. Be curious to see what that that domain would be valued at now. Yeah. Now Jeff, I love that you one of the focuses there is kind of like marketplace expansion. And you’re you’re kind of doing that for the 11 brands you own. And then, like you said, it’s like, hey, let’s turn this into an agency model and kind of replicate the same thing to other brands that want to scale but aren’t ready to exit quite yet. So maybe tell me a little bit more about why marketplace expansion is so important for a brand that might have already achieved seven figures selling on one single platform, such as Amazon, you can make an argument, hey, just keep doubling down on Amazon. Why would it be important to consider marketplace expansion? Right?
